SpaceX's Satellite Launch: A Sonic Boom Wakes Up California
In a thrilling display of technological prowess, SpaceX successfully launched 28 satellites into low-Earth orbit, but here's where it gets controversial... the launch may have startled residents of southern California with a sonic boom in the dead of night.
SpaceX issued a statement acknowledging the potential disruption, stating, "Residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties might have heard the sonic booms during the launch. The experience varied based on weather and other conditions."
The launch took place from Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California around 12:48 a.m. PT. This marked the first flight for the first-stage booster supporting this mission, with the stage later landing on a floating barge in the Pacific Ocean.
And this is the part most people miss... the launch was initially scheduled for November 19 but was delayed. The payload included 28 Starlink V2 Mini satellites, adding to SpaceX's growing constellation in low-Earth orbit.
This launch is just one of many recent SpaceX missions, including the launch of 29 Starlink satellites from Florida and the unfortunate explosion of the new Starship Super Heavy booster during testing in Texas.
